i liked lady in the water. it was okay. it kind of reminded me of mulholland drive how there were all these literal puzzles in the story that had to be deciphered in order to make sense of the movie.
i can see why it ate shit in the theaters though. it was weird and "challenging"
it was pretty obviously a metaphor for writing a story (or really, i thought it was about the tedious process of re-writing and editing) but i thought it had a lot of cool insight about screenwriting and how you discover the story as you go along and how characters change as you write etc.
i liked that he didnt bother with another "surprise" ending... he's gotten too reliant on them... i liked that it felt very brief, how long was it? it felt like 70 minutes. it wasn't fun and flashy like his other movies but i'm glad i watched it. i also liked the scene where paul giamati breaks down and cries because i thought that whole scene was really about taking a script you hadn't worked on in a long time and sitting down to finish it.... you know, metaphorically, |

i just watched crash. it wasn't weird and challenging. it was pretty good. overly melodramatic. but still enjoyable. not groundbreaking. i liked it when terrance howard put the beatdown on that guy.
i'm just glad nic cage wasn't in it. |
