tyson, a couple of things:
a like it. it's funny. his face is funny, and i like how it's framed even though i'm not sure why. and i like the color. but mostly his face. the fact that it says it's a "true" love story and it looks like he needs to shit. you've got "First" capitalized, just a typo i'd imagine. a typo for topo. also: ok this is just my opinion, but maybe if you gave it further consideration you'd agree. a first-time director announcing that the film is "a film by eddie gordon" or "a kylie minogue picture" is totally obnoxious. wait, let me just make absolutely certain i'm not planning on doing the same thing. no, i'm pretty sure i'm not. like, nobody but your mom and ray liotta know who you are, why's anybody gonna care if fred barnes fred barnes is a picture by you? well you know me, i always have to find something to gripe about. but i really like the way it looks, like i'd say hm that looks like something i might want to see. oh also, change that ellipses to a period.

i agree with jad that saying "an eddie gordon picture" is weird because who the hell is eddie gordon? its like saying "with food prepared by seth's mom" who's seth? is his mom any good? nobody knows.
however, if i made a movie i would want to slap my name all over it. but i disapprove of the 'film by' credit altogether. film by kodak maybe, but not like a film by kevin costner.
so, in conclusion, i'm conflicted. if its your first movie, you're less than nobody. but you should also be proud that you tried. not pretentious though. oh. maybe the perfect compromise would be to say "[my name] presents..." so its not like you're saying you're so great, and even if nobody knows who you are, you're still just identifying yourself as the head guy.
NO! i got it. make it say "un film di zoltan"
or "zoltfilm"
its a tough decision to have to make and one that i doubt many people give much consideration to. making a film is tough and you want to let everyone know that you've done something very challenging and want them to join you in celebrating it. but you don't want to minimize the contribution of the rest of the crew and you don't want to overestimate your place in the pantheon of cinema.

There should be a little picture of topo next to his name. like a bubble with his face sticking out, winking or giving a thumbs up… like from an old porky pig cartoon or something. That would be funny and would fit the film pretty well. |

of course you should be proud you made a movie, i'm just saying putting a director's name in ads like that is only to further peak someone's interest. if it says "a martin scorsese picture" or "a film by steven spielberg", studios want that shown to get more asses in the seats. if you've never made a film before, putting your name up there with the title only serves your own ego. and since i mentioned scorsese, i'm pretty sure he's the only guy that uses "picture" like that. most use "a film by" or "a jimmy fung film", but scorsese always uses "a martin scorsese picture". so you come off a bit like a wannabe. like if i really used that kubrick font for teenage spaceship stuff. i can't use that font, that's kubrick's font. so i won't. i bet ol' typo's like holy fucking jesus it was just a picture i made to post. get off my back. and then he's like antonio banderas sure was sexy in desperado. |

flying daggers is good. i watched it all fucked up in the middle of a loud party, so i missed a lot. theres some cool stuff in it though.
can you imagine attributing your movie to someone else???? jesus. thats a great idea. imagine if every single credit was wrong in the trailer? like, you show a picture of wilem dafoe and it says "starring whoopie goldberg" then you show daniel day lewis and it goes "and mercedes ruehl"
oh yeah, wilem dafoe and daniel day lewis are going to play chompers and beanpole in wheelchair basketball. |
