i can't talk shit about deadwood, i've never seen it. just that "the sopranos go western" sounds mighty unappealing. the west wing is still good, or got good again or something. i saw a couple of episodes either this season or last season that were good, but i don't watch it really. as long as rick schroeder's not in it, i'm good. |

deadwood isn't like the sopranos goes west. its like. ehhhh. its not all mobstery at all. its more like a sort of fractured look at the american dream with a cast of thousands if mamet had written it and set it in the 1800s. i don't know anything about the guy who actually does write it, but he's really clever.
topo and landon like it a lot more than i do though. they sit and watch it for 5 hours straight. i just like brad dourif and timothy olyphant. |

While the story revolves around the narratives of two friends attempting to open a general store, a seedy established bar owner, and an upper class couple from New England, all looking for prosperity in the newly founded town of Deadwood, the story often meanders around various other periphery characters helping to establish the rich milieu of the town. At times driven by dramatic action, at it's heart Deadwood is a character study dealing with the moral ambiguity within politics, business, and relationships. Deadwood exhibits some of the most impressive television screenwriting since early seasons of The Sopranos and it's humanist depiction of characters make it an ultimately likeable series.

oh but i did want to say that i do genuinely want to be here this spring/summer. not here in this house obviously, i will surely be in my own cruddy overpriced apartment by the end of may (suicide's my only other option), but being in the area will really help me write TS. just to be in the same world, you know. sort of "method writing" i guess? i don't know, but it seems almost necessary to me. |
